25 January 2008 – The Government of the Great Socialist People’s Libyan
Arab Jamahiriya has issued a travel advisory concerning the entry of
tourists to Libya.
Effective 07 January 2008, any person who wishes to enter Libya for
tourism purposes must have in his possession at least $1,000 or its
equivalent in convertible currencies. This requirement applies to all
travelers, including nationals of countries not required to procure an
entry visa for travel to Libya.
Exempted from the travel advisory are travelers who are on official
business, study, visit, dependents, and workers.
For visit purposes, the following will apply: a) the person whom one
intends to visit should possess a legal and valid Libyan residence visa,
and b) an approval from the Libyan Immigration Ofice for entry for visit
purposes must be secured. END.
