The words Hong Kong means fragrant harbor. Hong Kong is one of the best places to go in Asia. To some of the Filipinos, Hong Kong is more than that, it is a country where bigger opportunities can be found.

Hong Kong Bios:
Location: Eastern Asia, bordering the South China Sea and China
Total land area: 1,092 sq km
Area: Comparative -six times the size of Washington, DC
Climate: Tropical monsoon; cool and humid in winter, hot and rainy from
spring through summer, warm and sunny in fall.
Political status: Special Administrative Region (People's Republic of China) with one legislative house (Legislative Council [60]).

    Terms and Conditions Of Employment
     
  • Minimum guaranteed wage is HKD 3,270 per month (Php 23,011.32)
  • A rest day equivalent to 24 hours once a week except on official holidays.
  • During official holidays, HHWs are entitled to a rest day with pay.
  • Entitled to paid leave of 7 days after working for a year.
  • An employer must grant a holiday to an employee for each of the additional statutory holidays in accordance with Section 39 of the Employment Ordinance.
  • Entitled to a vacation in her country of origin as specified in her contract.
  • Entitled to2 sick leave days per month on the first year, and 4 days per month thereafter. Accumulated paid leave days cannot go beyond 120 days.
  • The sick leave allowance is equivalent to two-thirds of wages.
  • In case an employee gets sick or sustains injury, the employer must provide her/him with free medical attention.

    Reminders

    These are some tips and helpful advisories to OFWs in Hong Kong. OFWs bound for and already in Hong Kong are warned to constantly keep in mind the following reminders
     
  • Do not deal with loan sharks
  • Do not use your passport as collateral for loan
  • Taking double jobs is not allowed
  • Your passport is your personal property. It is illegal for your employer to keep it.
  • Prior to leaving the Philippines, open a bank account for remittance purpose.
  • Respect Chinese traditions, customs, practices and strictly observe their laws and regulations.
